1993 Movies Ranked

13. RoboCop 3
D: Fred Dekker
**********
It's a PG-13 RoboCop movie without Peter Weller…yeah…

12. Super Mario Bros.
D: Rocky Morton, Annabel Jankel
**********
It takes a truly oblivious person to make a Mario movie and make Bowser a human.  If I wasn’t a fan of the video game, I might find the camp of this movie amusing.  They clearly had no regard for the source material.  The movie is also known for its hilariously hellish production.  Arguably the worst video game movie ever.

11. Hard Target
D: John Woo
**********
Woo's American premiere is not that good, but it's got great action and the only American Woo movie that can hold a candle next to his Hong Kong films.

10. Demolition Man
D: Marco Bambrilla
**********
Actually, a pretty good satirical sci-fi movie.  I think I’d rather live in Blade Runner than a world where all the restaurants are Taco Bells.  I love the 90sness of this movie too; Wesley Snipes pretty much looks like a proportionate Rob Liefeld character.

9. The Sandlot
D: David Mickey Evans
**********
A funny, lighthearted movie about a bunch of kids being kids.

8. The Three Musketeers
D: Stephen Herek
**********
A competent adaptation of the legend.  Tim Curry is a great Cardinal Richelieu.

7. Tombstone
D: George P. Cosmatos, Kevin Jarre
**********
For the most part, it’s a competent western, but Val Kilmer stands out as Doc Holliday.  It also has a great theme song.

6. Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey
D: Duwayne Dunham
**********
I remember being on the edge of my seat through this movie as a kid.  One of the few live-action talking animal movies I can stand.

5. The Nightmare Before Christmas
D: Henry Selick
**********
It doesn’t have much of a story, but it’s got great style, great songs and a few laughs.

4. We’re Back! A Dinosaur’s Story
D: Dick Zondag, Ralph Zondag, Phil Nebbelink, Simon Wells
**********
I know this isn’t a popular movie, but it has an effective Bluth-like tone that makes it engaging.

3. Batman: Mask of the Phantasm
D: Adam Radomski, Bruce Timm
**********
It’s the Batman: The Animated Series movie.  ‘Nuff said.

2. The Thief and the Cobbler (Re-Cobbled Cut)
D: Richard Williams
**********
A beautifully animated classic with a terrible production story.  Too bad the studio turned it into an Aladdin rip-off.

1. Schindler’s List
D: Steven Spielberg
**********
A poignant movie about the Holocaust with a memorable performance from Ralph Fiennes.  John Williams’ score is superb.
